Hollie Chantiles is the proud owner of BEEstung, a fine art
and Illustration Studio that started out as a real honest-to-goodness bricks
and mortar store in 2005. Years later, it moved with her to her new home, and
exists as a working studio space for her, and occasionally a good friend. She
is perfectly happy with this arrangement (except that she often wishes there
were windows in her studio).
A 1998 graduate of Maryland institute, College of Art (where
she majored in photography for 2 years and then switched to general fine arts
with a concentration on drawing and anthropology), she has worked in many
fields, from Medical Illustration to Landscaping…with a few more unusual ones thrown
in. Her one constant is her art.
Now (working full time at a local flower shop to pay the
bills) her focus for 2012 as an unpublished/unlicensed artist is to accomplish
just that. Hollie just finished self-publishing her first book, “ Finding Sweet
Home: an Artist’s Interactive Journal to Inspiration”, with some help from
Kickstarter and some generous friends and strangers, as well as receiving the
AMAZING honor of having her design picked by John Fluevog to make her shoe for
his Open Source Footwear collection (http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w%5B0%5D=search%3Ahollie&pp=1&view=detail&p=1&colourID=3240).
Right now, she spends most of her time sketching away at new
ideas for a line of paper products and stationary, while selling her
terrariums, paintings, prints and handmade greeting cards at her Mom’s shop,
Frog and BEE. When she isn’t painting of making her terrariums, she can almost
always be found in the backyard or the woods, hands in the dirt, because that
is where she feels most inspired and at home.
